SCO: Millions of lines of SCO source code in Leapfrog Learning Pads"We have discovered that millions of lines of our SCO Unix code have been illegally copied into Leapfrog Learning Pads.”-Darl McBrideBy Eric Bishop Editor, LinuxStoleSCOCode.com Last modified: Jan 31, 2004, 3:30 PM MST Lines from SCO Unix's source code have been copied into the heart of millions of Leap Frog Learning Pads, sometimes exactly and sometimes in a modified form designed to disguise their origin, according to SCO Group Chief Executive Darl McBride. McBride's accusation cuts to the heart of millions of children world wide who have concerns for the future of their favorite learning toy. "We're finding...cases where there is line-by-line code in Leapfrog that is matching up to our UnixWare code," McBride said in an interview. In addition, he said, "We're finding code that looks likes it's been obfuscated to make it look like it wasn't UnixWare code--but it was." McBride refused to detail which specific code had been copied but said there were several instances--"some of them go back several years, and others are recent"--and said the copying was "not minor." SCO, however, won't publish what it's found. "We feel very good about the evidence that is going to show up in court. We will be happy to show the evidence we have at the appropriate time in a court setting," McBride said. "Those kids using Leap Frog Pads would have me publish it now, (so they can have it) laundered by the time we can get to a court hearing. That's not the way we're going to go." The claim could cause consternation amongst 3-12 year olds world wide, which is the targeted audience for Leap Frog Pads. "He's saying this stuff exists, but he's not willing to reveal it. Well, maybe we'll hear about this in court, but frankly, maybe we won't, because they'll try to seal it all," says Amanda Johnson, a 7 year old from Phoenix. "It sounds like he's trying to FUD Leap Frog in general." Representatives who we spoke to at Leap Frog have been quoted as saying, “These claims are ridiculous and entirely untrue, there is no SCO code in our Learning Pads.” “This is complete bullshit.” says Billy, a 11 year old from Dallas. “Mr. McBride is being a sissy and a liar. Next thing he is going to say is that he owns the rights to my “See 'n Say”, this guy just won't stop with the lies.” McBride is putting his legal muscle into this matter that is very intimidating. Children are donating their hard earned allowances towards a legal fund to fight SCO and have been forming Leap Frog User Groups (LFUG's) around the country to support their stance. SCO also announced today that it will start shooting babies. Their theory is that if they get rid of future Leap Frog users, this matter will be a slam dunk. "Babies grow up to be Leap Frog users, and we just can not allow this to happen any more." says McBride. We here at LinuxStoleSCOCode.com hope that the children of our world will win this battle, and we are here to support them in any way that we can. Disclaimer: This article is intended as a parody. There is no truth to these claims, well for now at least. |
